Our traveller’s guide · Mauritius

Live Mauritius
at your own pace.

Confidential beaches, local tables, catamaran cruises, trusted contacts. Everything we know about the island, shared straight, to prepare your stay at the Rose Horizon villas.

The Rose Horizon guide — Mauritius 2026

Not a tourist guide.
An address book.

By living Mauritius long enough, you know where to go — and where not to. Which beach is sublime at 7am, which small restaurant in Mahébourg is worth the detour, which driver to call for a safe transfer from SSR airport, which catamaran cruise won’t disappoint, which market is worth an early start.

This guide is our address book, updated every season. You receive it as soon as you book one of our villas (Le Secret du Clos in Grand Baie, La Flamboyante in Pointe aux Piments), to prepare your stay, and a printed copy also awaits you at the villa.

Three bonus tips

To get you started.

Rent a car on arrival

It’s the best way to explore the island at your own pace. Left-hand drive, but you get used to it in 30 minutes. Count on €30–40/day. Our partners deliver directly to the villa.

Avoid beaches on Tuesday & Thursday

These are Mauritian school outing days. Prefer other days — or go before 9am and you’ll have the sand to yourself, especially at Trou aux Biches.

Port Louis market

In the morning, on weekdays, before 10am. Spices, exotic fruits, crafts, bubbling atmosphere. Bargain with a smile. Also go to Flacq on Wednesday or Sunday.
